5 April 1944

Dear Marge,

Received your letter a couple of a days ago & was very glad to hear from you. Would have answered some but they've been keeping me "on the ball." No rest for the wicked you know. I must be plenty wicked! If I don't get a furlough pretty soon, I think I'll have a nervous breakdown just for meanness. I've got a new job now. I'm still in the office though. Can't seem to get outside on the line as I want.

We've got another new CO with us now. Seems we can't hold on to one for any length of time. Guess maybe we're too hard on them! Boy, this sure is a beautiful day. Would be perfect for a few rounds of golf. Guess I'll have to do that when I get my furlough. So you're been having a lot of rain, huh? So the river getting pretty high? Sure hope they don't have another flood.

You're sure a movie fiend aren't you? Have you seen "Up in Arms" yet? If not, don't miss it. It was really good. I've been seeing quite a few movies lately, so that is almost all there is to do.

Take a short break with our 1 minute survey, simple questions that are an enjoyable distraction.

Once in a while I manage to get out & play a little baseball. I'm going to try & get a good tan before I get home. Shouldn't be too hard as this sun is awfully hot.

Went downtown yesterday & got a short haircut. Now I don't have to comb it for a while. I'm getting lazier every day! But that's want the army does for you.

Spent all day Monday on the firing range. We got in some new rifles, so we had to go out & fire them. Had a load of fun but it gets pretty tiresome.

That's all there is in the way of news. Guess I better sign off for now as I've got some more work to do. Tell your folks I said "Hello" Take it easy & be good. Write soon.

Your Cousin
Joe
