Dear Margie
Here I am with nothing to do tonight so I thought I would write a few letters. I've been in this camp nine days already and haven't made a trip into Indianapolis yet but I expect to go in Saturday night. I haven' been able to get any of my cloths cleaned so this is the main reason why I haven' been able to get off the post.
I guess you know by now that I was assigned to a outfit here at Atterbury. I was really surprised when they told me that I wouldn't have to go back to the Pacific and I believe that was the happiest day of my life. I know I couldn't of ever stood another year over in the Pacific. My duties here are just about the

same as they were in the Pacific, the only tough thing about the camp is the working days we have to work nine days before we get a day off but we also get a three day pass every six weeks. cigarettes and cigars are rationed but I think I' l be able to get along anyway, one of the fellows that doesn't smoke lets me use his ration card so I get twelve packs a week instead of six.
So far I can' say anything wrong about the food, we' e had pork chops and steaks every day except Tuesdays, which is meatless day in the army, but after eating all of that dehydrated food overseas, I think I can do with meatless days one day a week. Well I' l have to close for now, I'll hope everything is OK at A.O. and let me hear from you.
