Dearest Darling Donna,

Received your most welcomed letter a few days and just neglected to answer. Well here it is Christmas Eve but it sure don't seem like it. The Colonel had loud speakers pasted around the area to play Christmas carols & the moment I heard them it brought tears to my eyes & made me think of old sweet home.

I sure wish I could be with you tonight honey in some show just loving one another up, wouldn't it be fun tho. I hear it's rather cold in old Chicago & pretty icy, down here today it was rather warm. I've received many nice boxs

present from my mother & relatives this Christmas more than the last. Well half my training is over so it won't be long before I'll be dodging bullets, but there's just one last thing I want & that's to come home to see my dear mother and you too honey. Mother sent me my pictures but just couldn't send any to you, my buddies wanted them so I had my mother have more developed. So if I don't get home to give it to you I'll have her send one there by mail.

It sure is awful down here. No dances, nothing to drink for miles around & when we do get a chance to get it they rob a soldier of all his money. Honey the next letter you write put a 8cent stamp on it all the envelopes say due 2 cents, 6 cents for over seas.

the soldiers sure are drunk around here. Since yesterday some P.X's have been selling beer, pops, candy, cigs etc... for one cent. I've never seen so many beer bottles in one pile in all my life. Well honey I'll have to sign off for now, I have to write to many others yet to-night.

Wishing you have a Merry Christmas and a very prosperous New Year.

Write very soon.
Love Verne
