Darling;

The days seem like weeks here. It's only Tuesday but it seems like Thursday or Friday. It'sreally getting tough now and the upper classmen are continually after us about anything in general. They barge in at anytime at all and get us at attention or make us "brace" (that's an exaggerated attention where you practically break yourself in half.) Another stunt is to make you answer several questions at very rapid fire and thats tough, Here's a sample - He asks you what your serial number is and here's what you must say - "Sir my army serial number is 1-3-1-7-8-6-5-7, Sir" or "My name, Sir, is Mister Beyer, Herbert K., Sir" or "Sir my home town is (over)

Royersford in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania Sir." or they may ask you whom is the best soldier in the U.S. Army. Here's the answer - "Sir, the best soldier in the United States Army is I, Sir." Why? "Sir, because I can properly follow orders, Sir." One little misplaced word and off they go - they really make a fool out of you and you just have to stand there and say yes Sir - yes Sir - no Sir - no excuse Sir, etc, etc.

We got a lot of our equipment (clothing, etc.) today. Today mind you, I was thankful many times already that I have such a wonderful wife. I had enough clothing to last me till we got our (G.I.) that means Gov't Issue.

If you could only see me darling - my (G.I.) haircut. Its simply terrifying. My hair line is about two inches above my ears and straight around my head. The length of my hair is about 1/2 inch, so

So far we've had a personal interview with a second Louie [lieutenant] about what we did in civilian life. We had to approach him properly with a salute and also address him as, Sir. Every thing we do take hours and hours of waiting in line, even for mess. My feet are really taking a beating, they getting used so much.

So far we've had no free time at all however I have heard from reliable sources that we will get 2 hours on Sunday nite if we behave, that is every Sunday nite. I've also heard that we will move out of here into pre-flight School in twenty days and may be

sent anywhere at all. So far I know 5 married men in our Squadron of 119 men and they are collecting the same information I am, and for the same reasons. It all looks pretty hopeless though, because there are no civilians living at the post and only those having special passes are allowed on Miami Beach. The city of Miami is about five miles west so figure it out for yourself.

Well, my dear, I' write again tomorrow and tell you all about the clothing and how it fits - thats real.
