P.S.S. - I'll send all my mail by airmail if I can
about coming down here. Dear I absolutely do not wnat you to come down here now anymore because we'll probably be moving next week and it wouldn't be worthwhile anyway as far as time and money are concerned. Just sit tight and wait a few more days darling. And for god's sake don't buy clothing, let that spring coat go until we know were we'll be going. It's unconcievable, darling, as to how differnet the clothing is down here compared to even summer clothes up North. So please save your money, get all your summer clothes etc. in shape and get ready to pack your bags. We'll buy clothes down South, they're much nicer.

Please forget about comming down to this "hell-hole". Personally I'll be glad to leave it and so will everybody else. Dear how is your money situation? Why don't you tell me in your letters? Whatever you do, don't make any debts. We don't want any obligations to anyone. After this is over we want to be absolutely free - understand darling? I thought perhaps you would get right on the ball abd get a little job where you would be come independent and save a little money for expences, I'm telling you darling I'm afraid my moneys going to be pretty well used up in equipment and cleaning and laundary bills. So far, we've only gottne ten bucks. I'm trying to stay away from you cheques

That guard duty we just had was something. I guarded the front and half the side of the "Broad-Ripple" hotel. I had some fun to, I halted a captain and 1st looie together, and a private alone about 2:30 and 2:45 in the morning. Boy I had full authority over my post and really made use of it. During the day it was all walking in the hot sun and presenting arms to officiers passing by. I'm telling you my rifle felt like a cannon on my shoulder during the last shift. It looks easy but its really hard work. Darling about my parents now. That's not so nice of them, that they went through all the stuff and picked every thing out.

P.S - officiers wear white shirts for dress also.
But anyway dear don't be too hard on them, let them haeve some of my things. They feel a certain responsibility I guess. They always took the best of care of my things and everything. Then again they wanted some of the nicer things that I owned for soveniers, naturally. Please don't be too headstrong dearest. I guess they think a little this way too darling, they're afraid that you'll give alot of my clothes to Stratton. Dearest I don't mind some of the things but don't give away very much. After all this way won't last forever and I'll need lots

of things in the army. For instance we were issued three pairs of underwear; when they are worn out, I'm going to buy new ones, I'm going to war out what I have first. I'll be able to, very easily, you can wear anything you want under your uniform. I haven't sent any "cives" away yet. I still have them in my suit case, in my barracks bag. We are supposed to wait till we get orders before we ship them and they havn't come through yet. When I do ship them dearest, I'll ship them to you. They are all wringled and dirty and they all must be cleaned and pressed and put away. Well punkie we had some free time, restricted of course this morning because of guard duty we had but this afternoon we have parads. Bye Bye my dearest more tomorrow.
All my love Herb
