My darling wife,
What-a-day! Only the army could do a day like this and I' not kidding. At 1:30 am we fall out for fire drilling - very interesting. Then we are called out at 4:45 as usual. The rapidity of maneuvers did not suit our dear sarge so he made us run 8 blocks and told us the same day would happen to us tomorrow if we were so slow. After show we fell out in "fatigues" and marched out to the drill field. Oh yes we also had our gas masks. When

we got these we were told to "police" the grounds (pick up papers and anything that doesn't grow) After that about 20 minutes, we were marched back, it's only about one mile one way. Back to quarters and dress in regular uniform and fall out again with gas masks. Back to the drill field we marched. After waiting arround 1 hour we were given a lecture, again for the fourth time, on the rifle and that we were going to the rifle range today. They stressed the poing to the extreme on how the rifle works and how careful we must be about handling it. Finally we were herded in cattle trucks. We mooed and cow cowed all the way and really made

the natives think that they were cattle in the trucks. Finally we got to the range and found out we were going to shot the Tommy Sub-Machine Guns which we had no lecture at all. All these beautiful lectures on rifles were wasted. Well they gave us a quick lesson and we shot fifteen shots. I hit the target eight times out of the fifteen which was comparatively good compared to the other scores. It went so fast, put, put a pot shot, and a few more puts and it was all over. It was lots of fun. I shot with the 1st bunch so I had to wait about an hour till the others were

finished. After it was all over, back to cattle cars and off we went cow cowin again. To our amazement we landed back on the drill field. Oh yes we hadn' had any dinner. We drilled a while and marched back home. Then we fell out for "col" on the beach. We had a few exercises then they ran us in and out of the water four times just to see how fast we could do this, some fun. To top it all off, we had to work all evening around our quarter-scrubbing. We had no open post. Oh yes we didn' use the gas masks at all, just lugged them around all day. We had top scrub every inch of our quarters. That makes us feel that it won' be long now. It was quite a lot of fun though. Yesterday I received a package from Mom. In it was "streusel Kuchen". That went just as fast as your cookies. The boys were crazy about it no kidding. and feel just the same way as you do. I get a funny tingling inside and chills down my back when I think of us. It just isn' right that two people so much in love should be 1500 miles apart. I love you so very much dearest, I' just lost and empty without you. I just keep longing for your beautiful body all the time.
