winter seem so much shorter Well Mary havent much news this time as there is nothing transpiring here of importance I have not heard from home in "" in some time I should like very well to be back there a short time I think I could appreciate it very much I think I should ride out with some of the hoosier girls that you know would be the natural consequence after being away so long Well by the may I must tell you of a pleasant time I had a few days ago

There are some eastern ladies here at the surgeon In charge of this hospital Of course I had an introduction they invited me and a soldier friend of mine in to the parlor and we had some good singing and piano music passed a few hours very pleasantly I almost forgot that I was a soldier I have some very good times here but can tell how long they are going to last

Soldiering is very uncertain but there is nothing like home pleasures I shall grow of service next summer sometime if I should ever go in the service again I should go in as an officer I have had a good chance to get a commission Since I have been here is a colored regiment but would not expect it

I intend to go home if I live and make my friends all a good visit before I go into any kind of service again I have not had a letter from your ma in some time I wrote to "" last you spoke of having some photographs of you in your last Now I should like to have you send me one I have about forgotten how you look I should be please to receive one in your next letter I should like to have your Pas and Mas also Write soon
