Dear parents,
Today school commences with about 75 students which is a good beginning. Mr Ward and I arrived a little too late to have an orderly exit on the cars on Monday. The cars flew when we were on the hill above the bridge. we drove on pretty fast and got there just at 10 o'clock which was one half hour too soon if the train had arrived at the proper time (half past 10) I took my trunk and run to the baggage car then ran to the buggy for my carpet, shawl, umbrella __ and about the time I left the buggy the cars left

the station and I'm trying to get a board dropped my shawl and contents but as me was going I hollered to the bystanders to throw it in at the window. Some one did so but when I came to examine its contents I found it had none. My sleeping shirt and gown being left.
Dr. Evans was on the train and when he returned in the after noon train I told him toss it to me on the evening freight. I went to the station to look but it did not......
Landly said just now that Gov. Tod was coming to review the troops at camp about 1 mile from town at 1 o'clock so must go to see them. ÿ

Well I have returned from camp but there was no inspection not till 5 o'clock. The boys who went from school last year are among the Reg. and will be mustered out this week. Now for the lost articles. As they did not come to L, I suppose Mr. Ward must have taken them home If Louisa has not written I write and want you to send them to me also the last catalog of the college which you will find in the book-case you can wrap them in some thick paper I think or put them in a little box. I will pay freight.
Must have them or buy new ones. Georges folks were well

Did you know: The word "inst" was a very commonly used abbreviation for the Latin "instante mense" meaning this month.
